INTRODUCTION TO CAREGIVING

     This occupational skills defines the MINIMUM required stock of knowledge and skills a tradesperson is supposed to possess to qualify as a CAREGIVER. A tradesperson is granted a certificate of efficiency (occupational skills certificate) under this occupational title once he/she passes the Trade Test

This Occupational Skills Standard is herein formulated and developed for any, and /or of the following purposes:

  1. To upgrade the level of skill of workers in the SERVICE INDUSTRY with the end in view of coming up with quality products/services, optimal use of equipment/tools/materials and increased productivity.

  2. To provide employers with a structured basis in the preparation of job specification necessary for salary/wage administration.

  3. To enhance the development of human resources through a precise assessment of skilled manpower in the SERVICE INDUSTRY at work.

  4. To serve as the basis in the establishment of Testing and Certification System, which machinery can be used for setting up a classified pool of CAREGIVERS ready to service both domestic and overseas requirements.

  5. To facilitate the setting up of machinery for the determination and implementation of the policy of "equal work, equal pay"; and

  6. Finally to enhance the government's desire of professionalizing the skilled worker for which role the TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (TESDA) was established.
